Sync & troubleshooting
Most of the time syncing takes care of itself — see Working offline. When something doesn't go through, the Sync screen shows you what's stuck and lets you deal with it.
Opening the Sync screen
Tap the red ! badge in the header. It only appears when something needs attention.
You can also reach it from the View errors action on the sync overlay.
This is a diagnostic screen
Sync is a technical screen rather than a polished part of the app — it shows raw counts and error text. You shouldn't need it in normal use. If you find yourself here often, tell your administrator.
Status
The Status tab summarizes where things stand:
| Row | What it means |
|---|---|
| Connectivity | Whether the app currently has a connection. |
| Pending | Changes waiting to be sent. Normal — they clear on their own when you're online. |
| Failed (retryable) | Changes that didn't go through and can be tried again. |
| Needs attention | Changes that couldn't be applied and need a decision from you. |
| Last synced | When your changes last went up. |
| Oldest pulled | How fresh your downloaded data is. |
Per-type pulled at expands to show when each kind of record was last refreshed.
Three buttons:
- Sync now — send everything waiting. Needs a connection.
- Pull latest — fetch the newest data from the server. Needs a connection.
- Retry failed — try all the failed changes again.
Dead letter
Changes that failed repeatedly end up here. Each entry shows what kind of record it was, what was being done, the error, and how many times it was tried.
For each one:
- Retry — try again. Use this once whatever caused the failure is resolved — usually a connection problem.
- Discard — throw the change away.
Discard is permanent
Discarding deletes that change for good. If it was a Why answer or a note you can't easily retype, try Retry first — and check with your administrator before discarding anything you care about.
Needs attention
These are changes the server couldn't accept — usually because someone else changed the same record while you were offline.
For each one:
- Resolve — mark it as handled, with an optional note. Use this once you've checked the record and confirmed things are right, or after redoing the change.
- Discard — drop it.
Before resolving, open the RCA or action item and check what it actually says now — a colleague's version may already be in place, or your change may need redoing.
Common situations
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
The ! badge won't go away | Open Sync and work through Dead letter and Needs attention — the badge clears when both are empty. |
| Sync now and Pull latest are greyed out | You're offline. They need a connection. |
| Pending count isn't going down | Confirm you're genuinely online (some site Wi-Fi blocks traffic), then Sync now. If it moves to Failed, use Retry failed. |
| The same change keeps failing | Note the error text on the Dead letter entry and send it to your administrator. |
| Something in Needs attention you don't recognize | Open the record in the app and see how it looks now, then Resolve or Discard. |
| Your data looks out of date | Pull latest. |
| You're about to sign out with things pending | Sync first — see Working offline. |
